Efootball 2022 in the test: The gambling of the year - the PES successor plays only on county leagues

eFootball PES 2020 (eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer 2020) is a football simulation computer game developed by PES Productions as well as published by Konami for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android and also IOS. The game is the 19th installation in the eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer collection and also was introduced worldwide on 10 September 2019 and also in Japan on 12 September 2019. This year s version includes a name change with the enhancement of eFootball within the title, symbolising a press in the on-line gaming room with a concentrate on eFootball Pro competitions. Lionel Messi returned as the cover celebrity of the basic edition, which was the first since his last appearance on the cover of Pro Evolution Soccer 2011, along with PES ambassadors Serge Gnabry, Miralem Pjanić and also Scott McTominay, each representing among the game s companion clubs. Ronaldinho was featured on the cover of the tale edition. PES 2020 is the last game in the series to utilize Kojima Productions s Fox Engine. It is additionally the last installment in the franchise business to use the PES name and also branding as the following installation was simply named eFootball 2022 and also is free to play. The mobile version got to 300 million downloads by June 2020.

There was a time when leading the comparison between FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer too miserable long discussions. Both football simulations had their fan base and, above all, its raison d être. Not even the best of friends could agree on which disc, then, should be thrown for the game night into the computer or console. But times have changed.

eFootball 2022 in Test

  1. 1Kaum scope
  2. 2Noch less scope
  3. 3Konami, put six!
  4. 4Abstieg into insignificance

While Electronic Arts every year brings an upgrade of its predecessor on the market, trying Konami to regroup in recent months. After the rather unwieldy name change on eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer 2020 two years ago, it s now back short and sweet to: eFootball 2022 is the new title of the Japanese developer and publisher Konami. First published as a Free2Play version with little scope to include Match Pass, creative team mode and some follow-store elements on 11 November a Euro-extension 40. These future plans are absolutely irrelevant, if we look at the current state of the PES successor.

Hardly scope

The Emirates Stadium of Arsenal is one of five licensed venues. Source: PC Games For weeks before the publication announced Konami that the scope of eFootball 2022 the release offers a few more content than a demo. Our opinion on this but differs from that of the Japanese company. At just two game modes, nine licensed teams, six stages and gameplay that significantly deteriorated compared to its predecessors, eFootball 2022 nothing but a trial version. On the one hand we can in offline friendlies against K.I. rush or a friend, on the other hand is us the online mode Worldwide clubs. There we play one-on-one duels against human players.

Although Robert Lewandowski to 1 shortly before: hit 0-ahead, we look into very emotionless faces. Source: PC Games The fully licensed teams include the five European teams Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Manchester United, Juventus and FC Barcelona. In addition there are the FC Sao Paulo, Corinthians and Flamengo of Brazil and River Plate of Argentina. European clubs and the Konami own design eFootball stage will be played in the arenas. In online mode, we are indeed more teams available, but without the official licenses of the respective clubs. there so we play for example with Liverpool R against Chelsea as players like Kylian Mbappe, Virgil van Dijk or Timo Werner are still animated and clearly visible. Why these teams are not in the friendly games available and we can only start with the license clubs in a game, however, remains a mystery.

Still less scope

But that s not enough. When it comes to game settings eFootball 2022 offers only a very limited number of options. It is easier to list what features have found their way into the game than the other way around. So we are just two of six levels of difficulty to choose from: Advanced and superstar. Everyone else is in place, but still grayed out and not selectable. That makes superstar as the highest level of difficulty to release a lot of friends, we doubt. The same applies to the playing time. We can set only one-half length of five minutes, although all options are up to a 30-minute half already displayed. Grass length (short, normal, long) and Pitch conditions (dry, normal, wet) can be changed though, but show no effect. Also tactic settings can be adjusted before a game only to a minimal extent. In 2022 only eFootball prefabricated tactics can be set before the game starts. At least with opposing set pieces but we must decide whether our team rather defended room or Marking. Konami, put six!

We come yet again to the strength of previous PES titles, the actual gameplay. Konami has managed in the meantime again and again to outperform the competition by Electronic Arts when it came to pure simulation of a football game. Even the predecessor eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer 2020 offered a strong feeling on the virtual pitch. But times have changed. With the switch to the Unreal engine should primarily be improved in addition to the graphics and the presentation of the gameplay. However, the project went completely wrong. eFootball 2,022 plays significantly portly than previous parts. To react players far too late or not at all to commands. And that s not even the worst.

The standard camera of Efootball 2022 zooms in two fighting closer to the action on the square. Sometimes that can be nice nerves. Source: PC Games The collision query in two bunks is told to say a joke. In the duel around the ball, it occurs more frequently per game that the possession of the possession changes several times in a single situation. As soon as we try to push our opponent in the defense, both players also like to stop completely or get into each other. In addition, the actors do not recognize in the course again and again when the ball is located next to them and just run past it. These coarse mistakes happen in such a frequency that no fun from start to occurs. There are also problems when selecting the players, non-functioning commands and an artificial intelligence that does not honor their name.

Descent into insignificance

Neuer, Slee and Upamecano are easy to recognize, but FIFA 22 has clearly the nose in terms of recognition value this year. Source: PC Games Even in terms of optics leaves Efootball 2022 to be desired. Even the two-year-old predecessors look better than what Konami offers with the current title. At least before the games, the football simulation atmospherically places a little bit. We see players in the warm-up program or scenes from the cabin, how the teams are tuning to the upcoming encounter. But that was already positive effects of the new engine. The lawn acts like a blurred surface without single grasshalms. In addition, the spectators disappear in the background to a large, gray pixel porridge. And even the 22 actors on the square do not shine with their external appearance and thus we do not mean non-questionable hairstyles of some kickers.

Ulkig facial animations and questionable proportions are in the PES successor on the agenda. Source: PC Games in close-ups Before the game or replay, the wooden animations and emotionless faces of the players embrace each other immediately. Perhaps Konami also renounces a manual repeat function for this reason. In addition, especially the arms of the actors in some attitudes act extremely disproportionately to the rest of the body. A real stadium atmosphere does not really come up. Although the fans are trimming again and again songs from the grandstand, but due to the small number of teams, they are also very limited. The same applies to commentators: With Marco Hagemann and Hansi Küpper, Efootball returns 2022 back to the well-known PES duo, but the sayings of the two repeat already after the second game.

On the older console generation we also had to fight in our test with constant backlogs. There are still long waiting times and permanent connection breaks in online mode. It remains to be seen if it manages Konami to raise the rudder by updates. For the many mistakes, the weak gameplay and the very small extent, we doubt that Efootball 2022 can be a serious competition for FIFA. It is much more likely that Pro Evolution Soccer is the next brand to Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill and Castlevania, which Konami carries to grave.

My opinion

Yawning boredom on and next to the square. I ll go back PES 2008

I can still remember very at times when I spent with a few friends all night with Pro Evolution Soccer. That s a few years ago, but at least gameplay technically could convince the series throughout. What efootball 2022, however, can be delivered, is an absolute farce and quasi the white flag against the competition of Electronic Arts. Although I m also waiting for innovations in FIFA and a step towards realism, but rarely I have deleted a game so quickly from my hard drive as the PES successor. Of course, the 40 euro enlargement is already in the starting blocks, but they can stay stolen to me. Even if Konami suddenly conjured all licenses of the world of football and a graphic improvement from the hat, Efootball remained a really bad game 2022.
